It’s Monday, What are You Reading? April 1, 2013

It’s Monday, What are you Reading? Here’s what I finished last week, what I’m currently reading and other book related posts. As usual, linking up with Book Journey today to recap and visit other bloggers to see what’s on their reading lists. It’s a great way to get new book recommendations, discuss good books and meet new bloggers.

Last week I Finished

I was not able to finish any books last week but I finally got my review posted of Sarah’s Key by Tatiana deRosnay. I love books that have me empathizing with the characters and authors who take me into the story deeply enough that I miss the characters when I’m done. This was one of those books.

This Week I’m Reading

Wicked is a 500 page book and it’s been slow-going for me, I’ve been reading it for a week and still have not broken through the first 100 pages.  The beginning details the witch’s childhood and I just don’t like her parents one bit.  Her father is a ranting and raving minister and her mother is lonely and looking for love in all the wrong places. Their story was dull and rather annoying to me so I’m glad the witch has left their household. Hoping the plot progresses now.

Other upcoming bookish events

The Book Blogger Twitter Con starts and runs from April 1st through April 7th. The calendar has very useful panels to any book blogger and I especially want to see the Copyright, Blog Design, Giveaway/Challenge tips and Twitter Awesome panels. Since I can’t participate during the day I’m hoping some of these will be easy enough to follow when I can using the #bbtc hashtag.

See my blogging events calendar, April is going to be a busy month with the Twitter con and several read-a-thons hosted by some of my favorite bloggers.

Well, that’s what I’ve been up to. What are you reading this week? Have you read any of the books in my post? What did you think? Tell me in the comments and let me know. Hope you link up or visit Book Journey too and see what other book bloggers are reading. Happy reading and have a good week!

    1. Thanks Ranae for stopping by, I am glad to hear from you. Yes! You definitely need to get a little “me” time and snuggle up with a good book. What’s the last fiction book you read and enjoyed? What sort of fiction do you like to read? Be sure to check out my Lethal Circuit review and be sure to head over to the blog tour page to enter the giveaway for an audiobook or e-book! If you’re going to pick something up, might as well try for a free one! It doesn’t have too many entries so far.

Hope you will stop back by and add your post to my Small Victories Sunday linkup. The infant toy organization post or expressing gratitude through meditation posts (or both) would be great! Thanks!

  1. Sarah’s Key has stuck with me as well. It has been ages and ages since I read Wicked, but it must pick up because I did enjoy it. I loved the musical more though, truth be told. 🙂 Enjoy your week!

    1. Hi Jen, Wicked is picking up and now I can’t put it down. I’ll be getting back to it as soon as I catch up with you lovely people who stopped by and commented. I love getting comments. I have not seen the musical of Wicked but I am quite curious how they made it a musical. Of course, I saw a commercial that 50 Shades of Gray is a musical too. I haven’t read the book but from what I’ve heard I’m not sure I want to know how they make it into a musical 🙂

  2. Awesome!!! I finished The Prisoner of Heaven by Carlos Ruiz Zafon and am starting on two books: Frankenstein (for my Classics Spin, yeah, I’m late), and 3rd Generation and Beyond, which is a Holocaust book for middle school ages by a friend!

    1. You are just cruising through your 100 books in a year! I need to check out what the Classics Club is up to, I joined right after the spin was announced and haven’t been back for an event. I know they had some good readalongs that would be great to do. I really want to get Little Women read in April so I can mark that one off my Classics CLub list as well.

      How was Prisoner of Heaven?

        1. Hi Rebecca, Shadow of the Wind is one of my Around the World in 80 books challenge books that I would like to read. I have heard great things about the books and adore Spain, one of the few countries we have actually been to! And our if we hit the lottery and I could tolerate the colder weather, we’d move to Spain in a heartbeat.

Classics Club is having read alongs. I wanted to do the one with Their Eyes are Watching God but I don’t think I’ll have time http://theclassicsclubblog.wordpress.com/2013/03/15/introducing-the-classics-club-sync-reads/. Why is everything in April? at.the.same.time? The True Book Addict is doing a read along of Rebecca http://www.thetruebookaddict.blogspot.com/2013/03/tuesbooktalk-april-selection-rebecca-by.htmlalso that I really wanted to get to but I need to finish Wicked and Little Women first!!! Oh yeah and Harry Potter readalong this month too that I’m missing out on. Geesh!

  3. Ah, I LOVED Wicked, though it’s one of those books I know people either ending up loving or hating. I hope you enjoy it and it doesn’t feel like a total waste for you.

    Happy Reading!

    1. I see that Jessie about being a book people either love or hate. Well I’m glad you loved it, if I’m keeping score from my blog visitors it may be tied now between the people that love Wicked and those that didn’t. The beginning was kind of a turn of but I will plug through and finish, I must get to the end! Thanks for sharing your thoughts, you give me hope that the story will turn around for me. Hope you have a great week also.

  4. This is my first visit to your blog, very nice.
I started a new book last week, Fat Profits. I am enjoying it.

  5. I’ve been having a hard time getting through a lot of books since the beginning of the year – but I think I’m finally breaking out this month too. Hope you enjoy your reads the rest of the week, and finish the book you’re currently on 🙂

    1. Good luck Tanya getting back into your reading groove. I go through my phases so this was a slow week for me reading wise but busy with work/family so something has to give. Of course, had Wicked captivated me more I would’ve stayed up late reading but that didn’t happen. It’d be nice to finish the book this week but I’m not counting on it. I’d like to get started on Little Women for the Monthly Keyword challenge. You’re in that one too right? What are you reading for April?

      1. I wanted to do the Keyword challenge but ultimately decided against it because I didn’t think I could commit to it monthly – along with the Internation Reading one I’m doing (hosted by Giraffe Days). April – I’m reading all the nominees for The Nebula Awards – so all science fiction and fantasy for me, until mid-May.

        1. Oh I see, I guess I thought I saw your name there. I love the way you challenge to read award winners and the international challenges as well. So many books, so little time. Hope the Nebula winners treat you well this week/month.

  6. I’m really looking forward to Twitter Con 🙂 It sounds like a good way to learn a few things!

Happy reading and have a fab week

    1. Hi Jennifer, were you able to participate today? I didn’t make it to either panel live. Hope you have a fab week as well.

  7. YES. The beginning of Wicked is SO SLOW. It does pick up I promise–I did actually enjoy the book for a bit in the middle. I can’t promise you’ll end up loving it (I didn’t) but I was glad I finished it.

    1. Thanks Heather, it does help to know the pace will pick up…let’s see I have about 150 pages more until the middle so let’s hope the pace picks up before then. I think finishing any book cover-to-cover is a small victory, a 500 page book is a big victory in my opinion and I will be glad to finish it either way. I have somewhat of a short attention span and lots of good books on my list to read for April. Did you see or have you read anything on my Spring Reading Thing post?

      Have a great week!
