5* – I Loved It! – NO ONE KNOWS by J.T. Ellison is a 5* thriller about a husband’s disappearance and his wife’s hope, love and desperation to find the truth.
Synopsis from Goodreads:
“In an obsessive mystery as thrilling as The Girl on the Train andThe Husband’s Secret, New York Times bestselling author J.T. Ellison will make you question every twist in her page-turning novel—and wonder which of her vividly drawn characters you should trust.
The day Aubrey Hamilton’s husband is declared dead by the state of Tennessee should bring closure so she can move on with her life. But Aubrey doesn’t want to move on; she wants Josh back. It’s been five years since he disappeared, since their blissfully happy marriage—they were happy, weren’t they?—screeched to a halt and Aubrey became the prime suspect in his disappearance. Five years of emptiness, solitude, loneliness, questions. Why didn’t Josh show up at his friend’s bachelor party? Was he murdered? Did he run away? And now, all this time later, who is the mysterious yet strangely familiar figure suddenly haunting her new life?
In No One Knows, the New York Times bestselling coauthor of the Nicholas Drummond series expertly peels back the layers of a complex woman who is hiding dark secrets beneath her unassuming exterior. This masterful thriller for fans of Gillian Flynn, Liane Moriarty, and Paula Hawkins will pull readers into a you’ll-never-guess merry-go-round of danger and deception. Round and round and round it goes, where it stops…no one knows.“
My Thoughts:
Aubrey and Josh had a perfect marriage so Aubrey thought. In love since they were kids, they knew each other better than two people could. So when Josh disappears, Aubrey’s perfect world is shattered. Without a body, Aubrey gets no closure that Josh is really dead. If he isn’t dead, why hasn’t he come back to her? Doesn’t he love her as much as she loved him?
I love reading thrillers and No One Knows is one of my favorite thrillers of 2016. Right up there with The Girl on the Train*, The Gates of Evangeline and Gone Girl, No One Knows is a thriller that kept me guessing to the very end. Author J.T. Ellison does a fantastic job developing Aubrey and Josh’s story. I felt her pain as she mourned the loss of her husband, the rock and support she needed ever since she was an troubled kid. The “what if’s”, the doubt and the heartbreak of not knowing what happened to him. Everyone is telling her he’s gone and never coming back, but she just doesn’t believe it.
I enjoyed Ellison’s writing, the characters and plot were complex, I never knew quite who’s side the people in Aubrey’s life were on. Josh’s mom pushing for his life insurance benefits. The reporter trying to figure out what happened to Josh. The cops who arrested Aubrey and suspected her of his murder. Josh’s best friend telling her to let it go. I really could not put this book down until I got to the ending that spooked me and kept me up at night.
I think thrillers like No One Knows make great book club selections. Participants can talk about the clues, whether they saw the ending coming, what were the true intentions of the characters and what they would do in the characters’ position. There isn’t too much I can say about this book without giving spoilers, all I can say is if you like thrillers, read it!

As weird as it might sound, even though I love reading, I never read thrillers. I get so sucked up in study books that there’s no time left for anything else.
Thanks for sharing your review, Tanya.
Oh, that looks REALLY good! Putting it on my “want to read” list for sure!
I’m reading Field of Graves right now which is my first book by J.T. Ellison and I’m really enjoying it. I love the sound of this one! I love missing persons cases and characters with lots of secrets.
I just saw that Field of Graves was out. No One Knows is my first JT Ellison book and I’ll definitely be reading more. She reminded me how much I love thrillers.
