Why do we feel like we are always running out of time? No matter how productive I think I am, I often feel like time is just melting away from me faster than a popsicle in this blazing summer heat. With 3 boys keeping me busy this summer, I need to be even more focused on making the best use of my time if I want to meet my personal, home and blog/business goals.

It’s easy to lose sight of our goals when we get lost in the busyness of daily life. So I want to let you in on my secret to staying focused on your goals when it seems that time is slipping away. Time tracking isn’t trendy or expensive. At first, it can be hard to remember to jot down the time you spent on a particular task. But, once you get in the habit and you learn how to analyze how you spent your time, time tracking is the single easiest thing you can do to improve your productivity and stay focused on your goals.

  1. Time tracking stresses me out. I once was an over-planner, and I went to a Franklin covey seminar and they suggest only planning 65% of your day. I think it is healthier to schedule some fun and downtime.
    The trick is to map out your day with tasks and appointments in your daily calendar including driving time.
    I first schedule appointments with driving time, then put your tasks by half hour in between the appointments. Too keep from going over your time limit schedule the alarm on your phone at the time
    When you start the task. I go shopping weekly where all the stores for what I need are all within walking distance of each other. I can do groceries, gas, bank, hardware, and dollar store in one stop. My reward
    Is Dunkin’ Donuts when I’m done.

    I see you are meticulous with your planning and goal tracking. Thanks for the tips. I should give it a try and write down what I do and when in order to have a better knowledge of when I waste time. Besides, this summer I have to tutor a girl, apart from my regular job, and I also have to study a subject I failed in the first semester (and I’ll finish my degree!). I know it personally motivated me to try it and it showed me that I actually spend way more time with my family and on household chores than I thought I was spending! Tracking time relieved me of a little mom guilt, which is ALWAYS a good thing!
