Before we get to Readathon news, Becca from I’m Lost in Books, Savvy Working Gal and I are happy to announce that we have two new co-hosts joining our Travel the World in Books Reading Challenge Team! Lucy from Fictional 100 has been a great supporter of our Challenge, she participates in many of our readalongs and brings great insight into our Twitter chats. Aloi from Guiltless Reading is also an inspiration to our challenge, you’ll just have to check out her book maps to see how far and wide her reading travels have taken her! We are thrilled that both Lucy and Aloi have joined our team, please stop by and welcome them!

Now on to the Readathon….

Welcome to our 2nd annual Travel the World in Books Readathon, coming October 18-31, 2015! We had so much fun and a great turnout for our readathon last year, that we are excited to bring you another Travel the World in Books Readathon.  Here’s what our Travel the World in Books Readathon is all about:

Explore countries other than the one where you live. Read as much as you can of books set in a different country or by an author from a different country. Read for your own pleasure or learning, read with your kids or both. Travel the world from the comfort of your own home and learn about different cultures. Expand your horizons and show publishers that #WeNeedDiverseBooks to promote cultural understanding and diversity in our reading. Support diverse authors and books. #TraveltheWorldinBooksRAT

Don’t forget to sign up for our no-stress Travel the World in Books Reading Challenge too, where you choose your own adventure and set your own rules!

Well just like the challenge, the rules are simple…just read book(s) set in another country or by author(s) from another country other than the one where you live. Sign up whether you are reading for your own pleasure, with your kids, or both, fiction or non-fiction, it’s all fair game. Easy, right? If your TBR is like mine, I’m sure you have at least one book that qualifies! Perfect for busy parents who want to encourage learning about diversity and other cultures with your kids too. Read as much as you can or want.

Our event schedule will include daily discussion topics, Facebook and Twitter chats, mini-challenges and giveaways during the readathon.  If you are a blogger who would like to host a mini-challenge, please complete the Mini-Challenge Host Form or a publicist or blogger who would like to giveaway a qualifying book during the readathon, please complete the Book Giveaway Form. Your blog or business info will be included in the Giveaway Tools widget to help you get more followers on your site and social media.

Begin linking up your readathon goals as early as Thursday, October 16, 2015 so that you will be ready to go on Sunday, October 18th! Tell us which books you’d like to read and which discussion topics and readathon events in which you plan to participate. Keep them simple or make a detailed list, the choice is yours.

  1. Hi Everyone!

So glad to be joining forces with you for thischallenge as there are so many of us who love to travel with books! We feature maps of all the books we read and shall also be plotting them on one big map for this event. Starting with a book set in Turkey by Barbara Nadel! a bit chilling so perfect for halloween too!

  2. Signedup! With the Dewey 24 hr Readathon ending at 7 a.m. of the 18th, I will do my best to keep reading 🙂 I too am reading for RIP X til the 31st, but every book has a location so they all fit with #TTWIBRAT !
No reading for me though on the 19th as that’s election day this year and the reason for my being MIA for so long – I should be free for reading after the 20th…

Thanks for hosting this Reading FuN !

  3. Sounds like fun! Unfortunately, I am already “booked.” ha ha! I like to read spooky stuff in October (though I will check the rest of my Oct reads to see if any are int’l). I do have to read a book group pick at the end of the month but it is a Civil War novel, so US-based. Maybe next time! I have, however, been reading lots of great int’l books for the TTWIB Challenge!

    1. I started The Visitant for review, it’s a Venetian ghost story so will satisfy both the Travel the World in Books Challenge and my fall spooky reading. 🙂 I hope you’ll find that one of your scary reads qualifies, we’d love to have you join us. Glad you’re enjoying international books for the main challenge. With two new hosts we’ll be having lots of fun in 2016!
