Classics Club Spin 2 Book List
The Classics Club is hosting another Classics Club Spin and this time I’m going to participate. What’s a Classics Club Spin you ask? Well here’s the info from their site:
- Go to your blog.
- Pick twenty books that you’ve got left to read from your Classics Club List.
- Try to challenge yourself: list five you are dreading/hesitant to read, five you can’t WAIT to read, five you are neutral about, and five free choice (favorite author, rereads, ancients — whatever you choose.)
- Post that list, numbered 1-20, on your blog by next Monday.
- Monday morning, we’ll announce a number from 1-20. Go to the list of twenty books you posted, and select the book that corresponds to the number we announce.
- The challenge is to read that book by July 1, even if it’s an icky one you dread reading! (No fair not listing any scary ones!)

This is such a great list! Many of these are books I have been wanting to read as well. I look forward to your review on Robinson Crusoe.
I read Their Eyes Were Watching God for the sync read at the club last month. I loved it and as time goes by I think I love it even more. It will definitely get reread at some point in the future 🙂

I’ve always wanted to read Rebecca though it is not on my original list. I would love to get a copy and read even outside the list. Hope your lucky number came up. My no. 6 was Pride and Prejudice and I can’t complain

So many excellent books, so many possibilities. I recently finished Frankenstein, which was an interesting book and a bit different from what I expected. I also read The Inferno earlier this year–actually I listened to it. I also listened to a Great Courses series on it and a bio of Dante as I needed the context to appreciate the work. Emma is one of my favorite Austens–everytime I read it, I enjoy it more!

The Count of Monte Cristo is on my list too, and I do like the look of it, it’s just so very long…
You have a great variety on your list. I have so many fond memories of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory from my childhood and from reading it to my kids. I loved Rebecca, and The Count of Monte Cristo! Good luck!
To answer your question I’ve read seven of these (2, 4, 8, 9, 11, 12, 19). I just recently read the Handmaid’s Tale and liked it. Also really enjoyed Their Eyes Were Watching God and The Autobiography of Ben Franklin. I stumbled upon a 1944 edition of Franklin a few years ago at the library and loved the illustrations in it. What a great list ! The Hunchback of Notre-Dame and For Whom the Bell Tolls are on my favorite ever list ! Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is absolutely delicious so is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Robinson Crusoe and Around the World in 80 days are amazing too…great teenage memories there !

Ah, we have 3 books in common: Jungle Book, Inferno and An Ideal Husband. I’m very excited to read Inferno, I think if it doesn’t pop up in the spin, I’d read it next month anyway.
The Count of Monte Cristo is very entertaining, while Robinson Crusoe is more difficult with the language, but I admire Crusoe’s struggle to find God here.

It looks like you have some great titles in your spin list. I have read Alice in Wonderland, Frankenstein and Emma. I probably enjoyed Frankenstein the most because it really surprises you. Is there anything you are really excited about reading? Good luck with the spin!
I have read several from your list. Their Eyes were watching God I read recently and is wonderful, I love Rebecca and Frankenstein which I have read four times. The Handmaid’s Tale I read many years ago – and thoroughly enjoyed it.

What an interesting list! Lots of great titles, here. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is one of my absolute favorite books. And the Harry Potter series which, of course, starts with Sorcerer’s Stone, is my favorite series ever. Have you read it previously, or will this be your first time?
Frankenstein is interesting, though not what I expected. For Whom the Bell Tolls is really good, though not my favorite Hemingway. I really enjoyed Robinson Crusoe, much more than I expected to, and The Handmaid’s Tale is great. Dante’s Inferno is BRILLIANT but difficult. Some of these others I haven’t read yet but are definitely on my “someday” list. Rebecca seems to make every single one of my “to read” lists, then I never actually read it. And I’m saving Emma for later this summer, for the Austen in August event.

Very nice spin list. I have read a few of those – The Handmaid’s Tale, which I think is Atwood at her best, and For Whom the Bell Tolls, which I read in March and was pleasantly surprised after having heard all this talk about how Hemingway’s style of writing can be.. let’s say, plain 🙂 But For Whom the Bell Tolls had such hidden charms! I also have Rebecca in my spin list (kind of hoping it gets chosen, it’s been talked about a lot and I am curious about this book). Good luck! 🙂

I have read Rebecca and Harry Potter. I liked them both but Harry Potter was definitely an easier read. Rebecca was a little tough for me to get through but it turned out good in the end. A lot of the books to read on your list are on mine as well 🙂 It feels like the list to read gets longer then the list of already read. Problems of a book nerd I guess 😀
