My Personal Goals for 2014

Personal Priorities clipboard

As 2013 is winding down and 2014 is just around the corner, I am sharing with you my personal goals for 2014.  I’ve read several books this year that inspired me to take a closer at my life and think about what I want to achieve. So when Tammy at Creative K Kids said she was hosting a monthly linkup where bloggers share their goals and accomplishments, I thought it would be a great way to hold myself accountable. I also hope you’ll join in and share your goals and accomplishments along the way.

The Books That Inspired Me:

1. Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey – seriously a life-changer for both my husband and I. It helped me learn things about myself and what I want out of life. Read my full review here.

2. One Year to an Organized Life by Regina Leeds – Regina breaks down the process tackling a room a month. I know things take me twice as long to complete as I give myself two years. Read my full review here and see the comments where Regina offers her support! After listening to the audiobook, I purchased a hard copy too so I can work through it.

3. Accidentally Green by Hilary Gimes Bernstein – great tips to get me started on making healthier choices for my family and the environment. Read my full review here.

4. Say Goodbye to Survival Mode by Crystal Paine (aka Money Saving Mom) – down-to-earth and realistic tips from a mom blogger and lessons she learned the hard way. Read my full review here.

  1. Love your listed goals! I need to spend some time listing mine and the details of each. Goal for today: write my goals…they are not doing anything floating around in my head. 🙂

    1. Every pound helps and I agree, I’m a carb lover too. It’s amazing how much better my joints have felt this winter, now that I don’t have work stress and am eating better and exercising. If I can keep it up through the winter, I think I’ll get in better shape. I haven’t lost any pounds but I do feel better so I guess that’s what’s important…though I sure wish the pounds would decrease just a little!

Thanks for your support and stopping by! Always glad to hear from you Alysia!

  2. You have such a welk thought out plan for the new year! I love it! You have given me the inspiration I need to set goals for myself in the new year. I have so much organization that needs to be done both in my home and on my blog.
    Wishing you all the best!

  3. I love your one about working on a mission statement. Often people think those are just for big organizations, but they are for individuals as well to give us a direction. I love your categories as well.

  4. That is a fabulous goals list and very inspiring! I have set goals and tracked my progress for years now. My process works pretty well – only problem is that I still overcommit to more than I have time/energy for!

I think you will find tracking various things for RA really valuable – I have done that since the beginning of my illness, and still do 12 years later. This blog post has a paragraph near the beginning about how I track symptoms, how I feel, activity level, etc. It really helps to see cause and effect: http://livewithcfs.blogspot.com/2012/01/how-i-improved-in-2011.html

Hope you have a wonderful 2014! I will continue to look to you for inspiration! Can;t wait to hear about this latest book you’ve read.

  5. Hi,
I’ve just discovered your blog through the Linky Party and I loved this post. For the last two years I’ve also been on a crusade do remove clutter from my house and to living a healthier life. My inspiration came from blogs like Zen Habits from Leo Babauta and Be More With Less from Courtney Carver.
I hope you’ll achieve your goals!

  6. You inspired me to start my own. I really hope I get to it before Jan. 1st! I hope you real all of those goals they are all worthy of the honest effort! I wish you Happy Holidays!

  7. Great 2014 goals, especially on the health side. I need to do the same for my book blog, but a higher priority for 2014 is to finish my memoir so those goals will likely override my book blogging for a while. First goal — set goals!

    1. Good luck with the memoir Sherrey, what a great goal to accomplish! Thanks for cheering me on in pursuit of my goals. It feels great to have some goals written down to work towards.

  8. I need to get my hubby to sit down with me and make some financial goals. I’m hoping we can get to that sometime this week. Do you mean that you are going to start a pantry with $1000 worth of food, or have a stock of extra food?

    1. Hi Rebekah, no I meant that I wanted to save $1000 in groceries taking advantage of coupons and sales. My store usually writes on the bottom how much I saved on each trip. Of course, you made me think I’ve also got to quantify once I get my veggie garden growing again, I would have to add how much I saved from growing my own to this $1000 goal. I got that idea from Rachel at A Life in Tune and thought I could do that too!

  9. Wow! Amazing list of goals! I’ve just begun thinking about mine for 2014 and I’m quite hesitant on a few things. I’m not sure I can make a list quite yet and it may be very flexible with yet another move on the horizon. Some of my goals will depend on where we will be moving (which has not yet been determined).

    1. Good luck with the move. I don’t even want to think about moving! We still have unpacked boxes from our move into this house, 10 years ago! Clearly I don’t need what I haven’t opened yet.

  10. I didn’t know RA affected gums!

We need to organize our house too. The front room is full of boxes from our move last year. We just don’t have anywhere to put those things!

    1. You’re welcome Kim. Hope you come back and link up your goals too so we can cheer you on! It helps me so much to have a list to focus on, I’m much too scatterbrained otherwise!

  11. Wow! What a list. I have no doubt you will be successful! I should make a list. Actually, recovering from my foot injury, exercise has become one of my goals. Starting with a set of stretches from a physical therapist 2-3 times a day. That itself will be hard for me!

    1. Yes, I hope you follow those PT instructions. After my hand surgery, I went to a PT and then thought I could continue exercises on my own. I let life get in the way and didn’t follow through with the exercises so lost some mobility and grip ability in my hand. In hindsight, I should have been more diligent. Hope you are a better patient than I am!

I hope you make a list and link it up with us!

    1. Thanks Tanya. I hope you link up your goals with us. How do you like my new blog design? I already started tackling it then happened to find one I loved last night! Thanks as always, for your encouragement and support.
